Progressive Battle Hymns
Code  1417 Size  5.5 x 8.25 in. Grade  Choice/XF Price  $49.95
Songster published for the campaign of Progressive presidential candidates Theodore Roosevelt and Hiram Johnson, 1912.

Written and compiled by C. H. Cogndon, "director of singing at the First Progressive Convention, Chicago, 1912." Authorized as the Official Song Book of the Progressive Party. 64-page booklet contains words and music to "Songs of Peace & Prosperity, Progress & Patriotism." Along with standard American anthems and folk tunes, there are songs written or adapted for the campaign, such as "Hymn for Roosevelt" and a reworking of Dixie ("Oh Wilson am a fine professor/ But I reckon Bryan a mighty poor guesser/ Look Away!" etc.) Includes statements of "Progressive Creed" and Roosevelt's "Human Platform"; an endorsement by suffragist Jane Addams, and contribution certificates for the Progressive Party.

Colorful cover graphics feature portraits of TR and Johnson and moose (Progressive Party mascot) against red Progressive battle flags.

A small trove of these songsters, untouched since the campaign and all in nearly mint condition, was discovered some years ago, and we were fortunate to acquire the bulk of them. We are now down to just a few. Order soon...when they're gone, they likely won't be seen again at this price.
