Code  1567 Size  21 mm Grade  Choice/XF Price  $39.95
Medalet promoting Benjamin Harrison for president, 1888. Brass. DeWitt BH 1888-25. Holed for suspension.

Obv. Bust of Harrison to left; around, GEN. BENJAMIN HARRISON 1888, star to right and left of date. Rev. Inscription, REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT.

Nominated for president on the eighth ballot at the 1888 Republican convention, Benjamin Harrison, a senator from Indiana, conducted a "front porch" campaign, delivering short speeches to delegations that visited his home in Indianapolis. Standing just 5 feet, 6 inches, he garnered the nickname "Little Ben" though his supporters were quick to assert that he was big enough to wear the hat of his grandfather, William Henry Harrison, elected president in 1840.

In the election, Harrison received 100,000 fewer popular votes than his opponent, President Grover Cleveland, but prevailed in the Electoral College, 233 votes to 168.

We offer a fine example of this Harrison campaign medalet from 1888.
