Dollars for Bread
Code  1783 Size  6 x 2.75 in. Grade  Choice/XF Price  $12.95
Novelty currency issued for Seattle municipal elections and celebrating President Franklin Roosevelt, c. 1934. National Lithograph Co., Seattle. Issued by Washington Taxpayer's Council.

Good for One Vote, promotes the reelection of incumbent administration of Mayor John F. Dore, who must have promised to cut taxes. Shows respective tax levies for 1931 and 1933. "This indicates there has been a tax reduction to the Citizens of the City of Seattle." The Great Depression, of course, likely accounted for much of the decreased tax revenue. Endorsed slate of candidates listed verso.

Features a portrait of President Roosevelt above the legend, "Dollars for Bread, Instead of Dollars for Taxes."

An unusual piece of Depression-era ephemera.
