Golf pencil promoting Spiro Agnew for vice president, 1972. A visible and outspoken vice president, Agnew's controversial opinions on such issues as civil disobediance and draft evasion alienated liberals and moderates but endeared conservatives who felt Nixon was too conciliatory. Although never seriously considered by the campaign, there were widespread rumors of Agnew being dumped from Nixon's reelection ticket. Agnew's supporters in New Hampshire responded by issuing a handful of pro-Agnew items, including this pencil.
