Poster promoting Franklin Roosevelt for president, 1936. Sweeney Lithograph Co., Bellville, New Jersey.
Even before the supreme test of leadership that would come later in his long presidency, Franklin Roosevelt was seen as a chief executive with certain heroic qualities. Few presidents, without hyperbole, could be described as gallant leaders. But in the case of FDR, the epithet seemed to fit.
This attractive poster, featuring a portrait of FDR by Perskie, dates to Roosevelt's first reelection campaign in 1936, and is the larger and more desirable of two sizes issued.
