Eleanor Roosevelt was the first presidential spouse to actively engage in politics, and as a consequence drew upon herself the scorn of her husband's political rivals. Among the countless anti-Roosevelt buttons circulating in 1940, when FDR ran for a third term, were a few that made pointed reference to the First Lady. Here is one.
