Fight It Out
Code  1907 Size  28 mm Grade  Choice/XF Price  $99.95
Medalet promoting Ulysses Grant for president, 1868. Brass. DeWitt USG 1868-30. Holed for suspension.

Obv. Military bust of Grant to front, inscription around, GENERAL U.S. GRANT 1868. Rev. Inscription around, I PROPOSE TO FIGHT IT OUT ON THIS LINE; enclosing above, IF IT TAKES ALL SUMMER; four stars; oak and olive wreath below.

Few politicians have seen their stars rise as fast and as far as Ulysses S. Grant. In 1861, at the outbreak of the Civil War, he was working as a clerk in a tannery. Seven years later, he was the highest-ranking general since George Washington, hero of Appomattox, and the Republican Party nominee for president.

This campaign medalet implies that Grant would carry the steely nerve and stubbornness he was known for on the battlefield into the political arena, with comparable results. We offer a choice specimen.

Note: Natural patina may vary from example shown.
