Poster, entitled, "THE AMERICAN DREAM," depicting a rocket marked "USA" heading toward the moon, President John F. Kennedy seating in a rocking chair, watching from the clouds, c. 1965. Star City, Inc., Hollywood, California.
Kennedy fueled American optimism when he proclaimed in his Inaugural Address that we would put a man on the moon by the end of the decade. Many saw the subsequent Apollo missions as a tribute to his memory, as much as a strategic or scientific endeavor. This unusual poster, somewhat crudely executed, is a poignant expression of this sentiment. It dates prior to Apollo 11.
