Senator Robert LaFollette of Wisconsin, considered the founder of the Progressive movement, thumbed his nose at the establishment and launched one of the most successful third party presidential campaigns in history. His running mate, Senator Burton Wheeler of Montana, came to national prominence as chair of the special committee investigating the Teapon Dome scandal. The Progressive ticket won Wisconsin's 13 electoral votes and polled close to five million popular votes nationwide.
