Pinback button expressing support for Vice President Spiro Agnew, c. 1970.
Nixon's attack dog, Spiro Agnew was outspoken in his criticism of liberals, anti-war demonstrators, and anyone deemed an enemy of the administration. Hoping to be annointed Nixon's successor, Agnew toned down the rhetoric following the 1972 election, but would not last a year in the office. The TV variety show Laugh In popularized the expression, "sock it to me," hence its use on this button from the period, worn by supporters of Agnew.
