For more than two years, between August 1974 and January 1977, the U.S. government was headed by unelected officials: Gerald Ford, who assumed the presidency upon the resignation of Richard Nixon, and Nelson Rockefeller, appointed to the vice presidency by Ford. This was precedented in history, and did not agree with many Americans, as voiced by this pinback issued for the 1976 campaign, in opposition to Ford's candidacy.
