[Cleveland and Thurman]
Code  12753 Size  30 x 78 mm. Grade  Choice/XF Price  $325.00
Badge promoting Grover Cleveland for president and Allen Thurman for vice president, 1888. Brass shell, paper, wood, straw. Unlisted in DeWitt.

A minature broom formed of red-painted wood and straws, on which is mounted a stippled brass shield with oblong opening framing conjoined photos of Cleveland and Thurman. Shanked pin once soldered to back is missing.

The broom is usually associated with change candidates, but in this case it boosts the incumbents, who lost the election despite a popular majority. A Harrison-Morton mate is listed in DeWitt, but we find no recorded example of this, and can't remember ever seeing another.
