Invitation to dine with Assistant Secretary of the Navy Franklin D. Roosevelt and wife Eleanor, Washington, 1915. Engraved card. Inscribed to a rear admiral, with the notation, "To meet the Secrary of the Navy [Josephus Daniels] and Mrs. Daniels."
Roosevelt was appointed Assistant Secretary of the Navy by Woodrow Wilson in 1913, serving until his nomination for vice president in 1920. Items documenting Roosevelt's tenure in the post are quite scarce, this being the first invitation we have offered.
