Pinback button promoting James Hanly for president and Ira Landrith for vice president, 1916. Bastian Bros. Co., Rochester, New York.
Hanly, a former Indiana governor and popular temperance lecturer, headed the Prohibition Party ticket with Ira Landrith, a Presbyterian minister, polling slightly more than 1% of the popular vote. Hanly would later successfully defend the 18th Amendment before the U.S. Supreme Court, establishing the legality of national liquor prohibition.
Scarce jugate for this third party ticket. Pristine example.
