Gummed paper.The plight of the nine black youths falsely accused of raping two white women and brought to trial in Scottsboro, Alabama, eight sentenced to death, became a cause celeb among Northern liberals. The Communist Party took up their cause and issued this seal as part of a fundraising effort. Rare artifact of a watershed event in the history of race relations in the United States during the Jim Crow era.
