Pinback button opposing Jerry Brown for U.S. senator, California, 1982.
Depicts Brown as a fruit fly, a reference to the medfly infestation of the state's fruit farms that occurred during the final year of Brown's first tenure as governor. Brown's mishandling of the crisis caused his approval rating to plummet, and he ended up losing the Senate race to San Diego mayor Pete Wilson.
"Governor Moonbeam" dates to earlier in Brown's career, when he was ridiculed for proposing a state space agency.
