Nixon's attack dog, Spiro Agnew was outspoken in his criticism of liberals, anti-war demonstrators, and anyone deemed an enemy of the administration. Hoping to be annointed Nixon's successor, Agnew toned down the rhetoric following the 1972 election, but would not last a year in the office.
