Pinback button opposing Jesse Jackson for president, 1984. Issued during for the Democratic primaries.
In conversations with reporters he believed were private, Jackson referred to Jews as "Hymies" and New York City as "Hymietown." When later quoted, Jackson initially denied having used these derogatory terms, then admitted he had made an error. The damage was done, however, and the gaffe was a major setback to his campaign.
