Ribbon celebrating Admiral George Dewey and American victory in the Spanish-American War, c. 1898. Printed silk.
An American flag flying right, above the legend, WE DIDN'T DEWEY THING TO SPAIN FOR BLOWING UP THE MAINE.
A clever play on the name of the American naval commander who led his fleet to victory over Spain in the Spanish-American War (there's a bit of intentional irony here, because the U.S. certainly did do something to Spain in retribution for what may have been an accident: took away her empire!).
An usual ribbon we don't recall seeing before.
