Pinback button celebrating President George Washington, c. 1910. Bastian Bros. Co., Rochester, New York.
Chromolithographic portrait of Washington against metallic gold field.
Some have suggested this pinback was issued for the 1932 Washington bicentennial, but based on the style of lithography and the manufacturer's backpaper, we would date it to the first quarter of the 20th century. Bastian Bros. issued a very similar Lincoln pinback for the 1909 centennial, so our best guess is that it was issued about that time, as a patriotic item. Whatever the truth may be, it's a very attractive button and we're glad to add it to our catalog.
