Pinback button promoting Theodore Roosevelt for governor of New York, 1898. The Whitehead and Hoag Co., Newark, New Jersey, with 1898 copyright statement by Rockwood at curl.
Fresh from a career-making stint in the U.S. Cavalry, having seen the elephant in Cuba, Roosevelt returned home to New York, and was immediately persuaded to run for governor. Utilizing his newly-minted heroic image, TR handily won over his Tammany Hall rival.
Roosevelt gubernatorial buttons are always in demand. This is the classic Rough Rider design. We offer a choice example retaining its original backpaper.
