Matchbox cover celebrating President Franklin D. Roosevelt and advocating support for Great Britain in the war with Germany, c. 1941. Celluloid over formed metal. Made in Britain and sold in the United States prior to America's entry into the war. Roosevelt is pictured on one side beneath the legend, U.S.A. On the reverse, a quotation from one of Roosevelt's addresses, in which he stated, "The delivery of needed supplies to Britain is imperative. This can be done. This must be done. This will be done." On the side panel, another excerpt, from an address given May 28th, 1941: "To-day the whole world is divided between human slavery and human freedom, between pagan brutality and the Christian Ideal [sic]. We choose Human Freedom, which is the Christian Ideal." A vintage "Fife and Drum" matchbox is enclosed. Pristine example.
