Necktie promoting William Howard Taft for president, 1908. Silk, tin, cotton muslin.
Portrait of Taft center, the legend, OUR CHOICE, above; WM. H. TAFT, below. Some insignificant fraying and aging. Marked "The Twister" with patent date on the back near the knot.
This rare novelty tie was issued for Taft's campaign and is possibly the first clip-on. We've handled a Roosevelt version, but this is the first Taft we have seen.
Articles of campaign apparel seldom have great longevity, which makes them among the most desirable items, sought after by advanced collectors. A great centerpiece for your frame of Taft pinbacks, or a unique display item shadowboxed by itself, one certain to elicit many comments.
