Come Meet Mike Dukakis and Lloyd Bentsen
Code  4534 Size  17.5 x 23 in. Grade  Choice/XF Price  $36.95
Poster publicizing a "post debate rally and bar-b-q" in support of Michael Dukakis and Lloyd Bentsen, Lone Star, Texas, Oct. 6, 1988. Dukakis/Bentsen Committee, Inc.

This event took place the day following the vice-presidential debate in Atlanta, when Bentsen delivered arguably the most famous line of any debate in presidential history. Dan Quayle, whose youth contasted sharply with the veteran Texas politician, had argued that he was more experienced than John F. Kennedy had been upon becoming president. To which Bentsen rejoined, "Senator, I served with Jack Kennedy. I knew Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy." After Dukakis' subsequent poor debate performance, many Democrats felt the wrong man was at the top of the ticket.
