The dinner was sponsored by the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Congressional Committee, and was attended by Kennedy, Vice President Johnson, Harry Truman, House Speaker Sam Rayburn, along with many other dignitaries and celebrities. Kennedy, the youngest man ever elected president, was just 43 when he took office. This, his 44th, was the first of three birthdays he celebrated in the White House.
