Broadside advertising FROM THE FARM TO THE PRESIDENTIAL CHAIR, a campaign biography of James Garfield, 1880.
Large, two-color broadside features several engravings highlighting moments in Garfield's life, and illustrating the cover of the book, "pronounced the best by Garfield's most intimate friends." The works of competitors are derided as "worthless catch-penny books" that are unreliable and contain less reading matter per page. This book contains "fine steel portraits of Garfield and Arthur" whereas "the CHEAP JOHN publishers...are too mean to go to the expense of making fine steel portraits of both Garfield and Arthur." Solicits agents to sell the book on a subscription basis. Fold lines and tears closed with archival tape.
A remarkable association item from the campaign.
