Abraham Lincoln: "The most satisfactory likeness" CDV

Carte-de-visite photograph, a portrait of Abraham Lincoln, c. 1865. Uncredited, from O-92, taken by Anthony Berger in Brady's Washington studio, Feb. 9, 1864. Robert Lincoln considered it "the most satisfying likeness of him" (quoted in Hamilton and Ostendorf, Lincoln in Photographs) and it was later used as the basis for the $5 bill. This copy was printed by another studio, sometime after Lincoln's death. Mounting residue verso, otherwise excellent. A strong, resonant image of our 16th president.
