Medalet promoting Andrew Jackson for president, 1824. Brass. DeWitt AJACK 1824-5. OBV: Military bust of Jackson facing left; around, GENL ANDREW JACKSON. REV: Inscription, THE NATION'S PRIDE, enclosed in oak and olive wreath.

Andrew Jackson won the popular vote by a narrow margin but lost to John Quincy Adams when the election was thrown to the House of Representatives. He would return to win decisively in 1828. One of three medalets struck in 1824 to promote his candidacy, and one of the first campaign items produced in America. Well struck, higher grading example.
