Medallion promoting Andrew Jackson for president, 1828. Mezzotint engraving encased under glass in circular pewter frame, with mirror verso. Portrait of Jackson to quarter right, JACKSON above, with trace foxing. The pewter has numerous very tiny indents on the upper most raised edge front and back. Missing suspension loop. The mirror has scattered oxidation spots, but silvering remains about 95% intact.

Unlisted in DeWitt, one of only two examples that have appeared on the market in the past 25 years, last appearing in a 2011 Hake Americana auction, where it sold for $6,734.86 with buyer's premium (Auction 203, Lot 167). Quoting the Hake cataloger, "Along with a snuffbox or two, this is likely the earliest non-medallic Jackson item to picture him," adding that it is, "one of the best Jackson pieces known."

Having come as part of a collection, we can offer it for substantially less than the Hake realized price. A unique opportunity for the advanced collector to acquire one of the great rarities of 19th century political Americana.
