Lapel pin given to a contributor to the International Workers Order (IWO) Front Line Fighters Fund, Spanish Civil War period, c. 1936-39. Litho. Green Duck Co., Chicago. Light wear. The International Workers Order (IWO) was a Communist-affiliated fraternal benefit society founded in 1930 that provided low-cost insurance and championed interracial solidarity, labor rights, and social justice. At its peak, it operated as a "Front Line" organization, supporting anti-fascist efforts, anti-racism campaigns, and pioneering civil rights initiatives in the U.S. before being disbanded in 1954. The first example of this rare pin (which required a deep-dive AI search to figure out), we have seen. It dates to the Spanish Civil War period, when American leftists were sending aid to the Soviet-backed Republicans.
