Letter (TLS) on stationery of Goldwater's department store, Phoenix, Arizona, signed by Barry Goldwater, 1939. The future senator and Republican presidential nominee, then 30 years old, writes to a Miss Christy Lambert thanking her for her "pleasant letter" and promising to inform her if the store opens a book department. Boldly signed "Barry M. Goldwater." The earliest Goldwater item we have offered, dating to the eve of World War II, during which he served in the Army Air Force as a transport pilot, and a decade before his entry into politics. Creased along folds, otherwise pristine condition. Includes envelope with Phoenix postmark.
