Mechanical toy bank, representing William Marcy "Boss" Tweed, the corrupt political boss of New York's Tammany Hall, c. 1875. Painted cast iron. June 8, 1875 patent date. Coin is placed in the hand of the rotund Tweed, who drops it into his vest pocket and nods his head in gratitude. Above average example retaining about 90% original paint. One of the classic political banks.
