Pinback button promoting George McGovern for president and Thomas Eagleton for vice president, 1972. N.G. Slater Corp., New York.
When Missouri Senator Thomas Eagleton was selected to be McGovern's running mate, a variety of buttons were rushed into production, then abruptly withdrawn after Eagleton was dumped and replaced with Sargent Shriver. Only a handful, including this jugate design, actually made it into circulation.
