Dick Gregory, the comedian and activist, ran as a write-in candidate of the Freedom and Peace Party, an offshoot of Eldridge Cleaver's Peace and Freedom Party. Gregory (with different VP candidates in different states) polled over 47,000 votes nationwide, more than Cleaver.
