Hero of the Pacific theater in WWII, General Douglas MacArthur was to many a patriotic ideal. Buttons such as this one were made during the war both to boost moral and subtly promote MacArthur as a future presidential contender. Despite primary runs in 1948 and '52, the general did not find success in the political arena.
