When Vice President Garner refused to support Roosevelt for a third term, FDR chose his Secretary of Agriculture, Henry Wallace, to share the ticket. Wallace served one term, replaced on the 1944 ticket by Missouri Senator Harry Truman. In 1948, he would challenge Truman for election, running unsuccessfully on a third party ticket.
