Clothing button celebrating the inauguration of President George Washington, 1789. Brass. Albert WI-11A; DeWitt GW 1789-7; Baker 1016.
OBV: Center, GW in raised letters in depressed, stippled oval; above, LONG LIVE THE PRESIDENT, in raised letters in a semicircular stippled channel. REV: Shank.
Scarce, historic souvenir of Washington's first inauguration. A very pleasing example, sharply struck with only light surface wear. The shank is original. Slightly better than the example which realized the same price in the second Frent sale (Heritage Auctions, 2018 February 24 The David and Janice Frent Collection of Political & Presidential Americana, Part 2 #6187, Lot 43012). Truly an historic investment opportunity!
