Pinback button promoting Barry Goldwater for president, 1964. Emress Specialty Co., New York.

Goldwater was the first licensed pilot to run for president. In WWII, he flew supply missions in the Army Air Corps (forerunner of the Air Force). After the war, he organized the Arizona Air National Guard, and flew fighter jets while serving in the U.S. Senate. When Senator Goldwater ran for president in 1964, his campaign utilized the image of a jet as a reminder of the candidate's aeronautic feats...as illustrated by this classic gold-hued pinback.
