Lapel stud promoting Grover Cleveland for president, 1904. Woven silk over tin with inset photograph. No maker mark.
There was a movement to draft Cleveland for a third term in 1904. He never announced his candidacy, and only a handful of 1904 Cleveland items are known, all considered scarce. This style of lapel stud was not seen prior to 1900, and there are similar studs from the 1904 campaign (e.g. Hake TR 3158 and 3354). The mature portrait also allows us to date this to 1904 with confidence.
