Electoral ticket cast as a ballot for Jefferson Davis as president and Alexander Stephens as vice president of the Confederate States of America, 1861. Lists electors for the state of Virginia. Signed by a voter, verso, who also indicated his preference for Congress. Rough upper edge and ink bleed, otherwise crisp and clean.
On February 9, 1861, a Constitutional convention at Montgomery, Alabama named Jefferson Davis provisional president of the Confederate States of America and he was inaugurated on February 18. On November 6, he was popularly elected to a six-year term, which he did not complete, owing to the Confederacy's dissolution in 1865.
Virtually nothing exists from the presidential campaign of Jefferson Davis, who ran more or less unopposed and would be the only Confederate president.
