Pinback button promoting John W. Bricker for president, 1956. No maker mark.
There was speculation that President Eisenhower would not run for a second term because of concerns about his health. In 1955, he had suffered a serious heart attack. However, he soon recovered and decided to run for a second term, and was renominated without opposition. A handful of Republicans were potentially waiting in the wings, including Ohio senator and 1944 VP nominee, John W. Bricker. This button was probably issued by supporters in Ohio, and we suspect there were no other clubs. Scarce.
