As the leaves of autumn begin to fall, we have a selection of items from the end of the 19th century, roughly the administrations of Rutherford Hayes through Grover Cleveland. For aesthetic appeal, it's hard to surpass this period's material culture. Recall that most of these items were just trinkets, meant to last a season and then be discarded. It is remarkable, therefore, when specimens survive in the condition of this month's offerings, some of which look to have been made yesterday!
