Badge opposing the free coinage of silver and William Jennings Bryan for president, 1896. Brass shell. Formed in the shape of a running boar, from the tail of which is attached a silvered circular disk (coin) bearing the legend, 16 TO 1; the latter is meant to rotate so that it can appear to emerge from the boar's hindquarters (however, as with most examples, it remains fixed in the position shown). Original pin attachment verso.
Scarce derogatory campaign badge, suggesting that the political doctrine of Bryan is on the level of pig sh--!
