In the election of 1960, the media fawned over Jack Kennedy's glamourous wife, Jacqueline. In an attempt to steal some of the limelight, the Nixon campaign issued a special line of "Pat for First Lady" items, touting the graces of the vice president's devoted wife, Patricia. It was hoped that she would appeal to voters' sensibilities, rather than their senses.
