Reagan had been governor of California barely a year before he was considered a leading Republican presidential prospect. There was a short-lived effort to put his name on the ballot in 1968. It was abruptly called off when Reagan endorsed fellow Californian Richard Nixon, but not before a handful of items promoting Reagan's candidacy, including this pinback, were put into circulation.
