Pinback button promoting Robert Taft for president, 1948/1952. Issued for the Republican primaries.
The son of President William H. Taft, Robert Taft, elected to the Senate in 1938, quickly rose to leadership of the Republican caucus, fighting to block New Deal legislation, and wrest control of the party from the moderate "Eastern Establishment" led by Thomas Dewey. Acknowledged as the national spokesman of Republican conservatism, Taft was a presidential hopeful in 1940, 1948 and 1952.
