Electoral ticket promoting Ulysses Grant for president and Henry Wilson for vice president, 1872. Lists electors for Virginia and a Republican candidate for Congress. Illustrated with a patriotic woodcut of an eagle clutching a Union shield. Docket hole and light creases.
Material from Grant's reelection campaign is uncommon, presumably because a victory was all but a foregone conclusion. The incumbent faced only token opposition from a break-away faction of Republicans, and a Democratic Party in disarray, unable even to agree on a nominee. Virginia, the former seat of the Confederacy, nonetheless gave her electoral votes to the former Union general.
