Washington: Roger C. Weightman, 1814.

Octavo, 2 pages, housed in modern gilt frame fitted with archival matting, backing, and conservation glass. Cover page and text of report. Age toning; not examined outside of frame. States that the joint library committee of Congress "have received from Mr. Samual Harrison Smith, agent for Mr. Jefferson, precise terms of sale of his library, in which the number of volumes is stated to be six thousand four hundred and eighty-seven, and the estimated price, twenty-three thousand nine hundred and fifty dollars." The committee accepted the terms and presented a bill to Congress for the purchase.

Jefferson's library became the basis for what is now the Library of Congress, the original library having been destroyed in the War of 1812. Rare imprint relating to the third U.S. president, and a great item to display with your personal presidential library!
