Pinback button promoting the War Savings Service, World War I period, c. 1918. Ehrman Mfg. Co, Malden, Massachusetts.

During World War I, the government instituted a program called the War Savings Service to raise money for the war effort. Each WSS recruit signed a pledge, obligating them to practise thrift, use disposable income to purchase war savings stamps or bonds, and to recruit additional members. Those who enlisted wore this button.
