Real photo postcard promoting William Howard Taft for president, 1908. Unused; AZO/up. Photo copyright Wm. H. Martin, with imprint of The North American Post Card Co., Kansas City, verso.
This unique postcard is an example of "exaggeration," a composite image that juxtaposes elements (in this case people and agricultural products ) out of proportion. The crowd welcoming Taft at a whistle-stop is dwarfed by enormous onions, cabbage, potatoes, and ears of corn; the implication being that Taft brings prosperity and abundance in his train. Clean, unused example.
